Man, it’s hot out there! How hot? Well, let’s just say that it’s the kind of day where your grandpa would make a comment about frying an egg on the sidewalk, and he wouldn’t be wrong.

Some would argue that these temperatures are meant to be spent at a beach or pool side; others seek out air conditioning and stay put until the weather becomes a bit more bearable. These are both excellent options, but I say this weather makes frosty drinks all that more delicious. Whether you reach for the frozen Lemonade, Slushy, IceCaps, or Frappuccino’s, these icy beverages just seem to soothe the soul on days like today…most of the time anyway.

Now to be fair, I have always been a sucker for a blended coffee drink and will hardly ever turn one down (unless it is a certain seasonal variety involving a gourd – but we don’t need to get into that right now). But mild addiction aside, some days, these treats just hit differently.

During my school days, one such time occurred during final projects. There were long days of contending with constructing a monumental kiosk involving manhandling jigsaws, bending particle board, and oh so much sanding. It definitely was no cakewalk, and most days, I was exhausted, covered in sweat and even more sawdust. So when my dad offered to treat me to a donut and Ice Cap from Tim Horton’s, I was stoked! Or… at least I was until he brought it to the table only to set off an epic explosion – an explosion that shot up into my face and literally covered me head to toe in ice coffee – seriously, I was drenched!

He claims it was an accident, but the fact that he was all but rolling on the floor laughing hysterically at my plight somehow makes me just a touch suspicious. After all, there is no way liquid can just fly up with that much force unless the cup was booby-trapped.

Although I must say, I’m not sure I would mind that blast of cold on a day like today. In fact, I’m getting chills just thinking about it. Thanks, dad.

  1. Hi Brie, Your frying egg comment made me smile. I did try to fry an egg on our deck. It was too hot for me to stick around outside with the frying pan. Ha, ha about the iced coffee. 🙂
